Many people say: “Dental care is too expensive. I only go when the pain is unbearable.”
The Community Dental Support Programme (CDSP) is designed to help people with financial or special needs access basic dental treatment at a lower out‑of‑pocket cost.
✅ People with financial difficulties, chronic illness, disabilities, or older adults
Those using public healthcare or receiving certain welfare benefits
Anyone with a toothache or chewing problems who has delayed seeing a dentist because of cost
✅ What is usually covered?
After a dentist’s assessment, CDSP may cover: Oral examination and X‑rays; Pain‑relief medication (if needed)
A limited number of fillings or extractions
Patients usually pay only a small administration fee, and some elderly groups may be fully subsidised.
✅ How to check if you or your family might benefit?
Ask your case social worker / medical social worker
Talk to staff at elderly centres, family service centres or rehab agencies
Visit the Department of Health’s CDSP webpage (communitydental.gov.hk) for participating organisations and contact details
🦷 A gentle reminder:
If toothache or chewing problems are already affecting your eating and mood, it’s worth asking a social worker or local centre to help you explore available schemes. Dental care may be more affordable than you think.
